Web Design
We ensure all our websites are validated by the World Wide Web
Consortium http://validator.w3.org/
so as to keep in step with the latest coding, scripting and style sheet requirements.
Coding
We use XHTML, CSS and (occasionally) JavaScript, PHP and VB. This area is a bit technical and we assume if you need us to build your website then knowledge of these things will probably be on the thin side at least. If you right-click your mouse and then click 'View Source', a pop-up will open up revealing the code that was used to build this web-page. In this case you will be looking at a form of coding called HTML, which stands for Hyper Text Markup Language which is the predominant markup language for building web-pages. CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is in a text file on the server externally linked to this page (or site) that handles all the styles, colours and fonts of the whole website.
Web Design
Our main web-developing tools include Microsoft Expression-Web 2, Blend 2, Design 2, Media 2, and we also have at our disposal Adobe Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash and a host of Graphic editors. We also have the excellent programming tool Microsoft Visual Studio 2008.
These days we make a template for every site we build, which includes an external 'style sheet' which sets the layout settings, colours, fonts and background images of the whole site. This means we can change the themes for the entire site very quickly by tweaking this text file. Sometimes we make several style sheets for one web-site to facilitate a quick but often dramatic change.
Hosting
After registering your domain address we will set up hosting and maintain your web presence for about £40.00 per year. Occasional uploads and theme changes are usually as little as £9.99. There is no charge for advice and support. If you require hosting on a server of your choice this is no problem.
E-commerce
E-commerce
means online stores (like Tescos and Amazon) where you can purchase
products through a shopping cart and checkout system. We can set up a
commercially available online store of your choice for your website and
link it to an online database although you will need someone to manage
it for you.
For stores with only a few products we recommend the simple free cart systems provided by PayPal and others. We try to save our clients as much money and time as we can! Classycool Music
CMS
Content Management Systems means you (and your colleagues/employees etc) can login and add articles and comments from any remote pc or device. If you are already hosted by us, we can install a blog, forum or discussion board on your 'fixed' website for as little as £10.00.
We are currently setting up a website/blog for the Whorlton Art Group which features front-end user uploading for their galleries.
